From what I read, WWII had a big impact in his life. Now that I think about it, all Existentialists had some kind of life trauma causing them to fall out from society

Do you think if there had been no war or they had no involvement in it, that people such as Sartre  would not have made such impact with his work, or have made it at all? As you said he removed himself from society. People like CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien reverted to imaginary worlds with complex histories and far removed from societal conforming that existed at the time.
